Avoid Worry About Infant Development

Many parents get all worked up over infant development, they need to stop and realize every infant develops on their own time table. Infant development guidelines are an average idea and every child is different, don’t let yourself get worked up to much, it can cause undeserved anxiety.

Concern is normal, but you also do not want to pass that concern onto your child, they will do it their own way no matter what you do. And you can actually cause your child to be anxious on a regular basis and at this point in life they do not need to start worrying about what their parents are thinking.

When a child is developing on it’s own schedule, your doctor will be the best judge as to whether you should worry or not. They will perform simple testing every time you take your child in to see them, and there is a good chance they will take a wait and see stance about any concerns they may have about the development of your infant. Don’t worry until they do.

They will watch carefully to see that your child is on track, and chances are, they will not be concerned if your child is a little late to hold their head up, to crawl, to walk or anything else. Try to remember that these milestones in a child’s life are an average age for development, and each child is different.

Be careful that you’re not pushing too hard, and make sure you’re not already pushing for your child to be an over achiever. While you may want your child to develop ahead of schedule, remember, even the tiny ones can feel anxiety and pressure from parents.

Just make sure you have a doctor you can trust, then listen to them. Take the time to enjoy each step in your infant’s life, remember, you’ll only see these development milestones once. Infants and children develop in their own way, embrace it, enjoy it, and realize that this is a journey you can’t do again.
